以前、「加えて」を使って説得力を増す英語の表現40選という記事を投稿しました。英語で意見を述べる際、詳細、情報や理由を追加したい時にandを使う人は多いと思いますが、その記事では、in additionという表現も少し紹介しました。
実は、in additionは色々な使い方ができます。「さらに」、「〜に加えて」、「その他に」などの意味になります。In additionの位置ですが、二つの情報を結ぶ役目を持っているので、文と文の間にきます。ただし、In addition toを使う場合は、日本語と違って、文の頭にきます。
In additionの代わりに使える表現は他にも、丁寧に聞こえる、additionally、 furthermore、moreover、 on top of (that)、not to mentionがあります。話し言葉では、plus、also、what’s more, besidesがあります。 文の最後にくる、tooやas wellもあります。

4. 追加情報文の最後に来る「さらに」・「そして」

The Takeaway（要点）：
英語のin additionは動詞のadd「足す・付け加える」からきています。つまり、文によって日本語では「加えて」、「そして」、「さらに」、「それに」などの意味になります。
今回紹介した表現の中には、what’s moreの様に、追加情報が最初の情報より重要だというニュアンスを持つものもありました。Not to mentionは少し特別で、「言うまでもなく」、「〜どころか」などの意味に近くなります。
Plus, besides, what’s moreやtooなどは使い易いですが、カジュアルな表現ですので、喋り言葉としてよく使われます。文章ではあまり使わないので、英語のテストの作文やメールではあまり使いませんのでご注意ください。
