英語のcreditはフランス語のcrédit、イタリア語のcreditoから来ていて、更に元を辿るとラテン語のcredo、trust「信頼」または、believe「信じる」という意味の単語が由来となっています（銀行と客がお互いに「信用」しているからcredit cardがあるのです）。つまり、That story is incredible!と言った場合、That story is unbelievable！（「信じられない話！」・「信じがたい話！」）と全く意味は同じになります。
また、映画本編終了後に表示される、製作者、監督、俳優などの全ての情報を日本では「エンドロール」と呼ばれていますが、英語ではend credits（又はclosing credits)と言います。マーベル映画では、その後に観れるおまけ映像をpost credit scenesと呼ばれいます（私も毎回観れるのが楽しみです！）。
それから、英語でcredo/creedは「信条・主義」という意味で使われています。『スター・ウォーズ』シリーズの『マンダロリアン』でもAccording to (Mandalorian) Creed…「（我々の）教義によれば–」と登場人物達が口にしています。
本日は、creditの様々な使い方を始め、関連している英語の単語と表現を、ネイティブ・スピーカーで異文化コミュニケーションの専門家（米・仏・日）である筆者が30選紹介します。

※to take / steal creditは「〈協力者などがあったのに〉自分の手柄にする」と言う意味です。 - The employees should get credit for their active participation and effort.

※to get・receive creditは「功績を認められる」と言う意味になります。

※「返品した品物と同金額分」と言う意味になります。店や品質状態によっては商品の元の金額より低いこともあります。

もっと個人的な意味合いになります。

The takeaway（要点）:
Creditと言う英語の単語は様々な使い方がります。日本語では「クレジット」と言うとクレジットカードの略だったりしますが、英語では表現と場面によって「評判」、「（功績などの）承認，称賛」、「単位」、「残高」だったりします。
どの使い方にしろ、元はラテン語のcredoから来ているので、creditに関連している単語は全て「信頼」・「信じる」と関係があります。フランスやスイスの銀行の名前はCrédit AgricoleやCrédit Suisseだったりします。
更に、incredibleは「信じがたい」・「信じられない」と言う意味の単語です（日本語でも表現は同じですね！）。どちらかと言うとポジティブな意味合いで良く使われますので、人を褒めたりする時に使ってみましょう！
