英語でaroundは、副詞と前置詞として使われ、「（周りを）ぐるりと」、「囲むように」、「周辺」、「周囲」などの意味になります。イギリス英語ではroundの方を使います。
Aroundはよく、動きに関連する動詞（move、drive、lookなど）と一緒に使う事が多く、「特に目的もなく」というニュアンスになることがあります。それに加え、句動詞の一部としてもaroundが含まれていることが多いです。
さらに、all aroundは「周り一帯」・「周囲全体」という意味になり、around hereは「この辺りで」という意味になります。また、数字や量などと一緒にaroundを使うと、「大体」・「おおよそ」という意味になり、その他にも、aroundは「〜に関連する・〜についての（話題・会話）」・「（話題）を中心とした」という意味としても使えます。

※カジュアルな表現になります。意味は2つあります。

I’ve been to 30 countries, so you could say I’ve travelled around.

turn around
注：意味は３つあります！
Turn around. We’re going in the wrong direction.
「Uターンをしよう。逆の方向に向かってるようだ。」

「振り向かないで。あれは多分あなたの元カレだと思う。」
We need to turn things around quickly.
「急いで状況を好転させなければなりません。」

※「特に何もせず、ただ待つ」という意味になります。

英語でaroundの基本的な意味は「（周りを）ぐるりと」、「囲むように」、「周辺」、「周囲」などになりますが、その他にもdrive around、lie around、run aroundなどの句動詞の一部だったりする事が多いです。大抵は、aroundを使うと「特に目的はなく」という意味になります。
