英語でbusinessという単語はよく使われますが、日本語の「ビジネス」の意味と違って、「業務」、「商売」や「仕事」に関連しているとは限りません。もとは、busy「忙しい」+ ness「状態」が由来の単語ですが、Let’s get down to businessやIt’s none of my businessと言う表現のbusinessは、「要件」、「用事」などの意味になります。また、How’s business?と聞かれたら、「景気はどう？」と聞かれています。
Businessと組み合わせて使う動詞（例：conduct business）によって、「取引を行う」、「事業を設立する」などの表現になります。更に、businessと一緒に使う形容詞（例：family business「家業」）と名詞（例：business attire「ビジネスウェア」）も数多いですが、この場合は大抵「業務」や「仕事」に関係しています。
本日は、「事業」以外のbusinessの意味、使い方と表現63選を、講師として18年以上の経験を持つネイティブ・スピーカーで異文化コミュニケーションの専門家（米・仏・日）である筆者が紹介します。

※逆の表現はイディオムのout of businessです。

①「事業・仕事を行う」と言う意味のconduct business

「（ここでは邪魔になるので）他の場所で事業をやっていただけますか？」
注：do your businessと言ってしまうと「用を足す」という意味になってしまいます。
Tom usually conducts his business online.
「トムは通常、オンラインでビジネスを行っています。」
②「事業を他の場所に移す」と言う意味のtake (one’s) business
Do you mind taking your business somewhere else?
「（営業を押しかけてきた相手に対して）仕事をよそでやって頂けませんか？」

「人件費が高くなりすぎたので、私たちは事業を他の場所に移すことにしました。」
③「取引をする」と言う意味のdo business
It was a pleasure doing business with you.

The Takeaway（要点）:
日本語の「ビジネス」と英語のbusinessは基本的に同じ単語ですが、英語の方は「仕事」、「業務」や「企業」と言う意味だけでなく、「要件」、「用事」や「取引」という意味を始め、他の単語との組み合わせで様々なとらえ方ができます。
英語のbusinessの意味と使い方が理解できると、表現やイディオムも理解できます。ただし、これらの表現とイディオムはそのまま使うようにして下さい。Businessだけを訳そうとすると文の意味がおかしな事になってしまいます。例えば、business as usualと言うと、「変わりばえしない日常生活」、「通常通りの生活・仕事」、「業務平常どおり」などの意味になりますので、単語より文脈を理解する必要があります。
