英語で丁寧に要求や依頼をしたりする際は、Could you…?という表現を使います。この表現は、Can you…?より丁寧な言い方になります。Could youの後の文法に少し苦戦する方はいますが、基本的に英語で命令文（例：Stop!、Help!、Wait!など）を作る事ができれば簡単です。命令文にCould youを頭に付けて、疑問文にすれば「〜をしていただけますか？」、「〜してもらってもいいですか？」と言う意味の文が完成です！
また、Pleaseを付け加えるとより丁寧になりますが、Could youのすぐ後に来るpleaseの強調に気を付けないと別の感情が伝わってしまいますので注意しましょう。例えば、Could you PLEASE give me a minute?と、pleaseを強調すると、「今やってるから慌てさせないでくれる！」などの意味になってしまいます。
